healthThey say 40 is the new 30 and 50 is the new 40. What does this actually mean?

Is it the case that we are looking younger or that we are healthier now than people older than us? Is this because we have access to so many options in life. The media bombards us day in day out with tips on eating healthy, exercising our way to happiness. Making decisions to change our health and well being can be really difficult.  We always find reasons to NOT do things – eg not enough time or money, not enough drive or reasons why.

Sometimes the decisions are taken out of our hands and a downturn in our own health kick starts the changes. I for one can talk about this personally. To say I was on my last legs was an understatement.

Well, I can tell you my 40’s have been very eventful!

Major health issues to overcome, back in 2012 I started with the most horrendous migraine attacks. Sometimes I would suffer up to 3 attacks a week. I was overweight, stressed and struggling with my business. At the time I couldn’t see the wood for the trees.

2 Years ago I decided enough was enough and I made a conscious effort to change aspects of my life. I slowly reduced my reliance on medication, improved my diet – started drinking alkaline water, exercising and taking time out for me.

At this point in my life, I had been self-employed for nearly 12 years – had some major successes and as many failures. But they say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. So true but at the time you really don’t appreciate that saying – it’s only after all of the events that you can appreciate how much you have learnt.

Forgiving and letting go of the past is also a big healer. I was holding onto lots of strong, sad memories that were causing me no end of anxiety. My father had suffered a stroke and life started to look and feel very different to me.

I did something that initially felt like a failure to me – I decided to take a part-time job to reduce the self-imposed pressure on my working week and bank balance. It meant I could spend time with the important people in my life and know that every month the bills would be covered.

Is this failure or self-preservation – I guess it depends on your outlook in life. Since taking on this part-time job work in my business has flowed to me every month without any effort. The universe has helped me in more ways than I can count.

I was ready for change and now I have the best of both worlds – I am self-employed and employed – What you choose to do with your life is YOUR CHOICE, too many people spend too much time worrying about what others think, I know because I too was in this place.

I am now healthier than I have been in years, my migraine attacks have virtually stopped – I no longer have to take 38 tablets a day, my diabetes is under much better control and I am HAPPY.  I do not have to work mon to Fri 9-5, I have the choice and lots of opportunities ahead.

I am back coaching and developing others – I am only happy when I am helping others to help themselves. Being around more people over the past 2 years has made a huge difference in how I feel.
